Recently, Ph.D student Jie Shen’s new paper “Subnanometer Two-Dimensional Graphene Oxide Channels for Ultrafast Gas Sieving” has been published in ACS Nano (DOI: 10.1021/acsnano.5b07304). This work reported a novel and facile external force driven assembly methodology to precisely manipulate graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets into ~0.4 nm-height two-dimensional (2D) channels. They enabled GO membranes outstanding and stable ultrafast gas sieving performance transcending the upper bound of state-of-the-art membranes. This work also provides a promising platform for studying transport, catalytic, and electrochemical properties of molecules, ions, or electrons confined in 2D atomic spaces.
